What is "Be Green in Bryan"?
Be Green in Bryan is a sustainability program designed to guide the City on projects and policies related to waste, energy, development, fleet, land use and natural resource conservation. In addition, the program aims to educate both city employees and the community on important local environmental issues.
What is being Sustainable?
A community is sustainable when it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. To be sustainable is to find an equitable balance between the people, the economic viability, and the environmental health of a community.
Program Policy:
As responsible stewards of our environment, the City of Bryan is continuously developing practices which strive to improve living and working environments while building a community that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.
Program Goals:
- Save the City of Bryan money and reduce the City's environmental footprint
- Educate both city employees and the community on important local environmental issues.
- Develop a Sustainability Action Plan with measurable goals and realistic timelines
By focusing on these goals we will help to retain people, businesses, and intellectual capital in this region by providing a friendly and healthy place for people to live, visit, and work.
Who is the Green Team?
The Green Team is an advisory committee comprised of representatives from each City department. These individuals are dedicated to creating a Sustainability Action Plan which outlines current efforts and future plans for sustainability within the City.
Through "Be Green in Bryan" the Green Team will build an action plan which benefits our community now and far into the future with green initiatives that are easy to replicate and affordable to implement. The Be Green in Bryan Sustainability Action Plan will focus on the six specific areas:
