PARKS & TRAILWAYS
The Parks and Recreation Department is in the process of developing an elaborate series of walking and biking trails across the City of Bryan. The goal of these trails is to one day provide a safe, convenient, and environmentally friendly transportation network throughout the City.
One of the most exciting developments is that of the Park Hudson Trail. The Park Hudson Trail will be completed in the fall of 2008. This 59 acre property is located along Hudson Creek, from FM 158 to behind Decision One on University Drive. It is a heavily wooded area with abundant wildlife that is a buffer zone between the residential neighborhood and the business developments along University Drive. The trail will connect to Tiffany Park on one end and will have 2 1/4 miles of trail.
Community Collaborations and Beautification Efforts
Aggie Replant
The City of Bryan has been a proud participant in Aggie Replant for several years. Aggie Replant is a large one-day environmental service project which plants a variety of trees around the Bryan/College Station area. Replant is one of the last remaining traditions associated with Aggie Bonfire at Texas A&M. Last year alone, the City of Bryan, in partnership with Aggie Replant, planted over 130 trees at three different locations within our parks system.
Christmas Tree Recycling
Parks and Recreation Department has teamed with the City of Bryan’s Environmental Services Department and Brazos County 4-H for the past several years to recycle Christmas trees at Haswell Park. Residents are encouraged to drop off their used non-artificial Christmas trees to be recycled into mulch. In return for their efforts in the recycling program, participants are provided a seeding tree to plant at their home.
Arbor Day Celebration
The City of Bryan has teamed with Keep Brazos Beautiful, a local environmental organization, to celebrate Arbor Day in a select City of Bryan park over each of the last several years. This year 13 trees were planted in Neal Park alone to commemorate the anniversary of Arbor Day.
Apache Tree Foundation and Lions Club of Bryan Tree Planting
The Parks department coordinated with the Lion’s Club and the Apache Tree Foundation to plant 25 trees in two parks this year. The trees were planted at Camelot Park and along Turkey Creek trail. It is hoped that this tree planting effort will be an annual venture and will continue to benefit the residents of Bryan.
