The minor housing repair assistance program is designed to alleviate immediate threats to the health and safety of low income home owners by providing grants up to $5,000 for minor home repairs. Improvements may not bring the entire structure into compliance with codes. Volunteer assistance may be employed to allow more repair work to be accomplished. Volunteer assistance will not reduce the total amount of funds allocated for a minor repair project. Community Development will provide counseling and assistance with regard to construction procedures and other programmatic issues.
For homes built prior to 1978, the only repairs allowed will be electrical, plumbing and roofing or any other repairs that will not disturb painted surfaces. Other minor repairs may apply for houses built after 1978. Assistance may not exceed $5,000.
Eligibility requirements include the following:
The property must be within the city limits of Bryan.
The property must be owned and occupied by an eligible low income individual or family.
All household members must provide proof of citizenship or permanent legal resident alien status.

Applicants must not have any liens against the property, excluding a first mortgage note.
The property and applicant must meet all applicable federal eligibility guidelines.
