The City of Bryan offers medical coverage to all regular full-time employees. Coverage is effective on the 1st of the month following 30 days of employment. However, if a participant is treated for any condition 90 days prior to the effective date, the condition will be considered pre-existing and that condition will not be covered for one year, unless the participant provided a certificate of coverage.

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), Federal Law PL-99-272. This legislature allows an employee and enrolled spouse and/or dependents to continue health coverage beyond the 30-day period following termination of employment with the City in certain situations. The employee’s coverage may be extended for 18 months; an extension of 29 months coverage is possible for the employee who is disabled at the time of termination or who becomes disabled within 60 days of such termination. Dependent coverage my generally be extended for 36 months when the qualifying event is the employee’s death, divorce, or legal separation, loss of dependency status or the employee’s Medicare entitlement, or in the case of multiple qualifying events.

To be eligible for City of Bryan Retiree Health Insurance Coverage, employee must qualify for service retirement with TMRS and elect, in writing, Retiree Health Insurance Coverage at the time of separation. Rates for the 2012 Retiree Health Insurance will be as follows:
