About Joey
Joey was born in Virginia and raised in Alabama, but got to Bryan, Texas as fast as he could! He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Communications with a minor in Music from Trevecca University in Nashville, and later, his Master of Urban Planning degree from Texas A&M University in 1994.
Joey’s municipal career began in 1993 as a Historic Preservation Intern with the City of Bryan, and was later the Bryan Planning & Development Services Manager/ Planning Administrator from February 1997 until August 2004. He returned to the City of Bryan in March 2006, where he serves as Deputy City Manager-Community Services, overseeing departments such as Planning, Community Development, Parks and Recreation, Library Services, and Special Projects.
As with many City of Bryan employees, Joey’s community involvement does not stop where his job description ends. In addition to being an active member in the Bryan Church of the Nazarene, he is a member of many organizations such as: the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), the International City/County Managers Association (ICMA), Texas City Managers Association (TCMA), and numerous other professional organizations associated with his diverse planning background.
Joey’s true passion is spending time with his wife Leslie, who is an elementary education teacher with the Bryan Independent School District, and his three sons (Chandler, Caleb, Conner) and one daughter (Claire).
Joey and his family are proud to be part of the Bryan community.
