Jon Ellis
Bryan High School 1985

Dr. Jon Ellis is a graduate of Baylor University, and received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. After serving as an orthopedic resident at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, he moved to Kentucky on a Sports Medicine Fellowship, during which time he served as the team physician for the Eastern Kentucky football team.

Dr. Ellis is the founder and president of Southwest Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics in Waco, Texas.

He also serves as the head team physician for Baylor University Athletics, as well as the team physician for Midway High School.

Jennifer Birkner Hathaway
Bryan High School 1983

After earning her degree from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1992, Dr. Hathaway fulfilled her residency requirements at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and returned to Bryan to begin her dental career.

Dr. Hathaway was nominated for the 2007 Texas Dentist of the Year and is the current president of the Brazos Valley District Dental Society.






Bob Huffaker
Stephen F. Austin High School 1955

Dr. Bob Huffaker earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in 1960, a master’s degree in 1970 from the University of North Texas, where he also received his Ph.D. in 1974.

A freelance writer and editor, Dr. Huffaker has enjoyed a successful career as a broadcast journalist, a college professor, an author, and was named a “Living Legend of North Texas Journalism” by the Dallas Press club in 2011.






Johnny Lampo
Stephen F. Austin High School 1942

Following his high school graduation, Mr. Lampo attended McKenzie-Baldwin Business College in Bryan and then began a career of operating a number of successful businesses in the Brazos Valley.

As a former Bryan City Council member, Mayor Pro-Tem, and Bryan ISD Board of Trustees member, Mr. Lampo established himself as a civic-minded individual who believes in giving back to the community. This is evidenced by his numerous appointments to various boards and organizations, including an appointment by Governor Ann Richards to the Private Industry Council.






Oswell Person
Kemp High School 1957

Dr. Person earned a bachelor’s degree from D.C. Teachers College, a master’s from the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. from Michigan State University.

Dr. Person was the first African-American to serve as campus president of Tarrant County College in Fort Worth. He served as president of Oakland Community College-Highland Lakes Campus in Waterford, Michigan, Interim President of Paul Quinn College, Dallas, Vice-President for Academic Affairs at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas, Dean, Mission College in Santa Clara, California, and Lansing Community College, Lansing, Michigan.






Carol Crocker Sisco
Bryan High School 1979

A 1983 graduate of Texas A&M University and a CPA, Ms. Sisco is currently a Senior Vice President for Citibank, N.A. serving the Commercial Bank Finance Division. She manages a team that supports the national Commercial Bank covering five separate geographic regions plus a vertical division of International Bankers.

Ms. Sisco is a recipient of the Citibank Circle of Excellence Award, the highest honor bestowed upon an executive of Citibank within the Commercial Business Group.






Richard A. Smith
Stephen F. Austin High School 1955

Following his graduation from Texas A&M University in 1959, Mr. Smith served four years active duty as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. He entered the real estate business in 1966, forming the Richard Smith Company in 1970. Now with Coldwell Banker Residential Affiliates, Inc., his company does business in over 70 locations as Coldwell Banker United, Realtors in Texas, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina.

Mr. Smith served as a Texas State Representative, District 14, from 1985-1991. He is also a past City of Bryan mayor and council member.






Leroy Sterling
Kemp High School 1957

Mr. Sterling received a bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University and a master’s degree from the University of Houston. He began a career as an educator in 1964, serving as a French instructor and Foreign Student Advisor at Texas Southern University. He entered the corporate world of Dow Chemical in 1969. Mr. Sterling returned to education in 1990 as an Assistant Professor, Director of Honors and Director of a National Writing Project at Alabama A&M University.

Mr. Sterling was the first African-American to apply to and attend Texas A&M University (Summer, 1963). He has published extensively in the following journals: English in Texas, Iowa Language News, and Alabama English.
