Changes made to the structure of the City of Bryan's organization
Interim City Manager, Kean Register is reviewing the City of Bryan’s organizational structure as a way to improve efficiency. As a result, Register is combining the Public Works and Water Departments. This structure is consistent with the organizational model he established in 2006. Register met with both Department Directors to discuss organizational changes. During these discussions, current Director of Public Works, Linda Huff, expressed a desire to pursue new career opportunities.
Huff began working for the City of Bryan in 1991 and has worked in a variety of positions in Engineering, Development and Public Works. “The timing, professionally and personally, is perfect for me. My children are either in college or college bound, which means my husband and I have opportunities to pursue a new chapter in our lives,” Huff said. “While I have loved working for the City of Bryan and leaving is difficult, I am truly looking forward to the future. I am proud of the many accomplishments during my tenure with the City.”
Jayson Barfknecht, current Director of Water Services, has accepted the combined position of Director of Public Works. Barfknecht is a licensed professional engineer with a B.S.C.E., M.S.C.E., and PhD from Texas A&M University. He has been with the City since May 2001 – starting in the Engineering Department and moving to the Water Services Department in 2005. Barfknecht has served as the Water Services Director since May 2007.
“Linda has been an invaluable asset to the City and we will miss her,” Register said. “We are fortunate to have someone of Jayson’s talent to step into this new role and I am confident of a successful transition.” Huff has agreed to remain with the City temporarily, in a transitional role.
