Major Accident on East Highway 21
On December 2nd, 2010, the 5600 block of East Highway 21 near Marino Road was closed for three hours due to a major accident. The Bryan Police Department and the Traffic Safety Unit responded to the scene. Two accidents occurred within minutes of each other on East Highway 21. The first accident occurred at 6:23 am and involved a Kia 4 door that sideswiped an 18 wheeler headed northeast bound on East Highway 21. After the accident occurred, both drivers stopped in the roadway. The Kia stopped in the center turn lane and the 18 wheeler stopped in the inside lane with its flashers on. No one was injured in the minor accident and police were notified.
At 6:28 am, the Bryan Police Department received a second call of a major accident at the same location. A Buick LeSabre, that was traveling northeast bound in the inside lane, rear ended the 18 wheeler that was stopped from the previous accident. The driver, an 80 year old male from Bryan, was transported by helicopter to Scott and White in Temple for medical treatment. No one else was injured in the accident.
The driver of the Kia in the first accident was cited for Fail to Maintain Single Lane. No one has been cited in the second accident and the accident is still under investigation. The roadway is currently open on East Highway 21.
