BVSWMA Board unanimously appoints Executive Director
The Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management Agency, Inc. (BVSWMA), Board has unanimously appointed Bryan Griesbach to the position of Executive Director. Griesbach will be the first board-appointed Executive Director for BVSWMA, Inc. His first day will be on Monday, February 14.
Griesbach has over 20 years of experience in the solid waste industry and will be responsible for day-to-day management and leadership, strategic planning, financial management, policies and regulatory compliance at all BVSWMA, Inc. facilities.
BVSWMA, Inc. Board President and Bryan Mayor Jason Bienski praised board members and the two cities of Bryan and College Station for working together since the creation of BVSWMA, Inc. in September. “I’m pleased that everyone is working so well together, and we’re excited to continue to provide an excellent service for BVSWMA, Inc. customers,” Bienski said. “Adding someone with Mr. Griesbach’s experience means we’ll continue to provide unparalleled service for the two cities in the future.”
Griesbach comes to BVSWMA, Inc. from GeoShack North America, a landfill product distributor. Prior to that Griesbach served as the vice president of the Environmental Management Group for IESI-BFI Canada, the third largest non-hazardous solid waste management company in North America.
Resumes for the position have been accepted since May 2010, and the BVSWMA, Inc. Board made it a priority to find a candidate with both executive-level management experience, as well as landfill operation experience. Three potential candidates were interviewed and Griesbach was selected.
Griesbach says he looks forward to incorporating the community into BVSWMA, Inc.’s operations with educational efforts and says he’s ready to get to started, “I’m thrilled to get to work with the existing staff at BVSWMA, Inc. and excited to work with all BVSWMA, Inc. facilities – including the new Twin Oaks Landfill, which I think is the nicest landfill facility in the country.”
Griesbach will receive an annual salary of $115,000.
Griesbach received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1989 and a Master of Business Administration degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 2002.

The Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management Agency Inc. is a local government corporation formed in partnership between Bryan and College Station to provide uninterrupted, competitively priced, and environmentally responsible disposal capacity for the citizens of the Brazos Valley. BVSWMA Inc. owns and operates three facilities, the Rock Prairie Road Landfill, the Bryan Composting Facility, and the Twin Oaks Landfill, which will begin operations in Spring 2011.
