BVSWMA's Spring 2011 HHW Event Sets New Record
The recent Household Hazardous Waste Collection event in Bryan-College Station set a new record for the amount of material collected through the biannual effort.
The spring and fall HHW collection events, sponsored for more than a decade by the Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management Agency (BVSWMA, Inc.), have diverted millions of pounds of hazardous items from the local landfill.
During the April 23 event, more than 130,000 pounds of household hazardous waste was collected from almost 1,800 participants.
"The amount of material collected and the huge turn-out is just another illustration of this community's commitment to the environment," BVSWMA, Inc. Executive Director Bryan Griesbach said. "BVSWMA is proud to sponsor this event, but we also want to recognize the efforts of the volunteers from the cities of Bryan and College Station, the Brazos County Sheriff's Department and others who made it possible to serve such a high volume of people in a short period of time."
The fall 2011 HHW collection event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1.
