Press Release Thursday, July 28, 2011Junior Golf Clinic wraps up at Travis B. Bryan Municipal Golf Course
On Thursday, July 28, eight young golfers completed a month-long clinic to learn about the game of golf at the City of Bryan’s Travis B. Bryan Municipal Golf Course.
The campers met twice a week with head golf pro Matt Williams to learn about the basic rules and techniques of the game. “I really wanted to focus on the basics of the game – grip, stance, and posture – along with teaching the most important part of the game which is golf etiquette,” Williams said. “So many people forget how to act on the golf course, and the rules of the game.”
The camp was open to kids ages 6 to 17, and enrollment was limited so each participant could get adequate attention. “We had eight kids this year, which allowed me to focus one-on-one time with each player,” Williams said.
Clinic participant Conner Dunn was happy to spend 4 weeks of his summer out on the links, “It’s just really fun learning the game that my granddad and dad play.”
Another camper, Caleb Cervenka, also enjoyed the clinic, “It’s been really fun, I want to come back next year, and I’m thinking about getting my own clubs and playing golf in high school.”
And according to Williams, inspiring the love of golf in youngsters is the point of the Junior Golf Clinic. “The purpose of junior golf is to grow the game,” he said. “We have to replenish the game, to keep the game and the business growing.”
At this time, there are plans to host two junior golf clinics in the summer of 2012 – one in June and one in July. Log online to www.bryangolf.com for the latest on the Travis B. Bryan Municipal Golf Course.
