Fatality Accident Highway 6
On August 21, 2011 at 9:37 am, the Bryan Police Department responded to a major accident in the 1500 block of N. Earl Rudder Freeway (Hwy 6) near the intersection of Hwy 21. Officers and the Bryan Fire Department arrived on scene to discover a single car rollover accident. The driver of the vehicle was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Munoz. The Traffic Safety Unit and Criminal Investigation Division responded on scene to assist in the investigation. No one else was injured in the accident. The driver was the sole occupant of the wrecked vehicle.
The investigation reveals that the 2000 white GMC Jimmy, operated by the deceased, was traveling northbound in the inside lane of N. Earl Rudder Freeway. For unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway to the left. The driver then overcorrected to the right and crossed both northbound lanes. The GMC then left the roadway to the right where it began to roll over and landed on its roof before coming to a stop. The driver of the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt. The roadway was shut down for approximately 2 ½ hours during the investigation.
The deceased was identified Wendy Dean, a 40 year old female from Benchley, Texas.
