Bryan firefighters to participate in memorial stair climb
Members of the Bryan Fire Department will honor victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks by participating in a memorial stair climb at the Varisco Building in Downtown Bryan, on the 10th Anniversary of 9-11, this Sunday.
The firefighters will climb 110 flights of stairs to honor the emergency personnel who responded to the World Trade Center on 9-11. Both towers 1 and 2 of the World Trade Center were 110 stories tall.
The firefighter/paramedics will gather at the Varisco Building (219 Main Street) at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. A memorial tone will be broadcast at 8:59 a.m., signifying the time of the South tower collapse of the World Trade Center ten years ago. After a moment of silence and prayer, the firefighters will climb to the top of the seven-story Varisco Building 15 times, followed by one trip to the 5th floor to complete the 110 stories.
The firefighter/paramedics plan to complete the 110 stories wearing full bunker gear, with the exception of their self-contained breathing apparatuses and masks.
