Observe the Moon Night a big hit
On Saturday, October 8, the Bryan + College Station Public Library System’s College Station branch, Larry J. Ringer Library, hosted the International Observe the Moon Night.
Despite starting the moon watch gathering under partly cloudy skies, there were 100 visitors in attendance to view the moon’s surface. The Brazos Regional Astronomy Service Society (BRASS) provided three telescopes for the moon viewing, under the direction of Dr. Dennis Utley of Blinn College.
Also in attendance at the moon viewing were several learning centers. One of the stations was manned by Naveen Cunha, the instructor of the Odyssey Academy, a math, science and technology magnet school within the Bryan Stephen F. Austin Middle School campus. Odyssey Academy students set up 8 astronomy science learning stations in the meeting room and lobby of the library.
Bobbee Pennington of the Clara B. Mounce Public Library also had a table of moon information and a display of photos from the “Moon Over My Town” project, which asked library visitors to submit their photographs of the moon.
The B+CS Library System is also the recipient of a Moon Kit, which will soon be at the Clara B. Mounce Public Library in Downtown Bryan.
