City of Bryan agrees to purchase contract with Briarcrest Country Club
The City of Bryan has approved a contract with the Briarcrest Country Club to purchase the Club’s 125-acre property and all of its assets for $2 million.
This purchase agreement includes Briarcrest Country Club and all of its components, including the golf course, driving range, clubhouse, pool, tennis courts and racquetball courts.
This contract is subject to voter approval and may be terminated by the City of Bryan for any or for no reason at all during a 60-day due diligence period. This provides a period of time for the City to review all management contracts, take an inventory of the condition of Briarcrest property and facilities, and prepare a transition plan for the municipal operation of Briarcrest golf course and the other property amenities.
In a Special Election on November 8, 2011, voters have an opportunity to consider two propositions. The first proposition allows voters to determine if the City should be authorized to dispose of or eliminate the parkland designation to allow uses other than recreational use for the approximately 117 acres currently utilized as the Travis B. Bryan Municipal Golf Course at 206 West Villa Maria Road.
The other proposition, a non-binding referendum, allows voters an opportunity to voice their opinion of the Briarcrest decision. The proposition asks if the City of Bryan should purchase Briarcrest Country Club and make the golf course open to the public if the voters elect to authorize the disposal of or the elimination of the parkland designation on the Travis B. Bryan Municipal Golf Course on November 8, 2011.
