Fatality Accident Rollover
On November 28th, 2011 at 5:40 pm, the Bryan Police Department responded to a major accident at the intersection of 2200 E. Martin Luther King and 1300 North Earl Rudder Freeway E. Frontage Rd. Officers and the Bryan Fire Department arrived on scene to find that one vehicle had rolled over in the accident and passengers had suffered severe injuries. The Traffic Safety Unit also responded to the scene to investigate do to the severity of accident. One of the passengers later died at the St. Joseph Hospital from injuries sustained in the accident.
The initial investigation revealed that a 1994 Ford Taurus was traveling eastbound on the E. Martin Luther King overpass. The Ford then ran the red light at the intersection colliding with a 2009 Kia Sportage that was traveling northbound on the E. Frontage Road of N. Earl Rudder Freeway. The impact caused the Kia to roll over on its roof. All three passengers in the Kia were transported to St. Josephs Hospital. The driver of the Ford was also transported to the hospital.
The deceased was identified as Mary Thomas, a 70 year old female from Lexington, Texas.
The driver of the Ford, Justin Gonzales, a 17 year old male from Bryan, Texas, was cited for disregard red signal. All drivers and passengers were wearing seatbelts in the accident.
