Sign up for Bryan’s Citizen Fire Academy

Ever wonder what it was like to rush into a burning building? Curious about extrication techniques? Or have you always wanted to ride in a fire engine?

Now is your chance! The Bryan Fire Department is now accepting applications to the Citizen Fire Academy. The 9-week program will meet every Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., beginning September 6 and ending November 1. The course is designed to open the lines of communication between the BFD and the community.

Some topics covered in the course include: Fire and EMS Operations, extrication, first aid, CPR, rescue, HazMat, Emergency Management, and investigations. Class members also will have the opportunity for a ride-along in a fire engine, and participate in a live burn day at the TEEX Brayton Fire Field. Meals will be provided at each class, with some of the meals provided by the firefighters.

To be eligible for the Citizen Fire Academy participants must be at least 18 years of age and must live or work in the City of Bryan. Participants must also be able to commit to attending each class.

To sign-up, fill out our online application. The deadline to apply is Friday, August 17, or until the class is filled (class size restricted to 20 participants.)

For more information, including a schedule of classes, go online to the BFD Citizen Fire Academy webpage.
