Freedom Boulevard Closed This Weekend For FM 1179 Improvement Project

For Immediate Release October 24, 2012

BRAZOS COUNTY — Beginning at 6:30pm on Friday, October 26, 2012, the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) contractor will close the intersection of FM 1179 (Briarcrest Drive) and Freedom Boulevard in order to reconstruct the intersection pavement and median. This closure will be in affect from Friday evening until 6:30am on Monday, October 29, 2012.

TxDOT tries to minimize the inconvenience to motorists as much as possible, but there will be some inconvenience this weekend. Motorists who travel this area should expect delays, watch for construction workers and equipment and use extra caution during this closure.

Access from the east to Wal-Mart and Chick-fil-a will be available by entering Freedom Boulevard on the south end of Cambridge Drive near Lowe’s and First Baptist Church, and from Oak Ridge Drive between Wal-Mart and the High School Football Stadium.

Access to Sonic and Taco Cabana will continue to be available by the driveway off Briarcrest.

Access to Casa Ole and the Freedom Strip Center will be available from the Sonic/Taco Cabana driveway, the Wells Fargo driveway and the south end of Freedom Boulevard off Cambridge Drive.

This weekend closure of Freedom Boulevard is part of the $4.7 million dollar improvement project of FM 1179 contracted to Knife River Corporation. This project is to increase capacity and improve safety in this area. The entire project is anticipated to be complete in late August of 2013.
