Press Release Thursday, February 21, 2013Traffic delays expected during funeral procession for BFD Lt. Greg Pickard
Friday’s funeral procession for Bryan Fire Lt. Greg Pickard is expected to be lengthy and to cause considerable traffic delays, according to local law enforcement agencies.
Lt. Pickard’s public funeral service is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Central Baptist Church with the procession beginning at approximately 11:45 a.m. The final destination will be the Aggie Field of Honor at College Station’s Memorial Cemetery.
The route of the procession is not a direct one; rather, it is designed to drive Lt. Pickard past his beloved Fire Station No. 5 on Villa Maria Road in Bryan as a final tribute before proceeding to the cemetery.
Personnel from Bryan and College Station Police Departments, Brazos County Sheriff’s and Constables’ Offices, and the University Police Department will block intersections as they normally would during funeral escorts, and release each intersection once those involved have made it through. The significant difference will be the length of time each intersection is blocked, so the community is asked to be patient during this time of reverence and, if possible, to find alternate routes during the midday.
