Phase One of Downtown Bryan Park Almost Complete
Park Serves as a Gateway to the Downtown Area
The first phase of the Downtown Park located to the west of Main Street between W. 28th Street and W. 29th Street is nearing completion, just in time for the beginning of the Texas Reds Festival. Grass is being planting in the park today (Thursday) and crews will be putting the finishing touches on the area Friday.
Using grants from her mother’s Bryan beautification trust, Stephanie Sale Singleton worked with the City of Bryan to create the park for the city’s citizens and visitors.
"We are so pleased that, through our mother's foresight and generosity, a park to compliment Bryan's historic downtown is nearing the initial phase of completion,” said Stephanie Sale Singleton. “Our parents, Gloria and Chic Sale, would be thrilled to see this spot of beauty for all to enjoy. My sisters, Courtney and Lynsey, join me in applauding the City of Bryan for the creation of this park."
By the weekend people can enjoy sidewalks leading to a plaza area and beyond, a brick display wall for exhibitions and a circular brick seating area around the future fountain site.
Phase 2 of the park will feature the installation of a splash pad fountain and an open-air pavilion – which will function primarily as a covered meeting facility. The pavilion will be constructed to resemble the historic rail depot that once stood at the location. A schedule for the construction of Phase 2 has not yet been determined.
