City of Bryan Selects Communications Director
The City of Bryan has selected April Avison as the City’s Communications Director. For more than three years, Ms. Avison has been employed by the Bryan-College Station Eagle as a Municipal Government Reporter. Her work experience includes being the City Editor of The Daily Herald in McDonough, Georgia, and being a reporter for The Huntsville (Texas) Item. Ms. Avison studied journalism at Texas A&M University, and wrote and edited for the student newspaper, The Battalion.
Bryan City Manager David Watkins states, “As an organization, we are excited to have April join our team. April is energetic, positive, and enthusiastic, and I am pleased we found someone who has established ties with the local media. She brings many years of experience in the media and understands the needs of reporters and others covering local government issues. Additionally, April joins a strong Communications and Marketing team that will allow the City of Bryan to excel in the municipal communications and marketing arena.”
Ms. Avison begins August 18, 2008, and she will oversee the five positions in the Communications & Marketing Department. The Department is responsible for the City’s local government access channel, the City’s Internet site, press releases, marketing, and other communication tools. Ms. Avison’s annual salary will be $65,000.
