Bryan to convert Copperfield-Canterbury intersection
All-way stop expected to relieve congestion near Sam Houston Elementary
On Friday, August 22, the City of Bryan will be converting the intersection of Copperfield and Canterbury drives to an all-way stop-control intersection where all three approaches will now be required to stop.
This modification is a result of increased and changing traffic patterns on all approaches of the intersection, especially related to the extension of Copperfield Drive to F.M. 1179. The current stop conditions can be confusing to some motorists. The change should help with the increasing congestion around Sam Houston Elementary School during the morning and afternoon drop-off and pick-up times, and in the vicinity of the school crosswalk just north of this intersection.
The city’s traffic study of the intersection supports the change to an all-way stop, and it should be an added safety enhancement at the intersection as well as at the school crosswalk.
