Shelter for locals
Bryan, CS residents in substandard housing may need to evacuate Friday evening
Bryan, Brazos County, College Station and Texas A&M University officials announced Friday afternoon that shelters are opening for local residents who are concerned about their housing in the wake of Hurricake Ike.
Anyone who feels unsafe in their residence is encouraged to evacuate. Mobile homes or substandard homes should be evacuated if the weather deteriorates and includes high winds and heavy rains.
College Station Middle School on Rock Prairie Road, Stephen F. Austin Middle School (801 South Ennis, Bryan), Bonham Elementary (3100 Wilkes, Bryan) and Anson Jones (1400 Pecan, Bryan) will open to local residents seeking shelter.
Locals are asked to bring their own bedding, supplies and medicine. An evening meal will not be served Friday. Pets are not allowed in the local shelters. The local shelters will be available at 6 p.m.
Shelter will be available for Texas A&M students, faculty and staff at G. Rollie White Coliseum starting at 5 p.m. A phone line will be open beginning at 4 p.m. The number is 979-845-4129. ID is required. They are asked to bring their own bedding, supplies and medicine. An evening meal will not be served Friday. Pets are not allowed.
