Bryan hosts annual cookout for United Way
The City of Bryan will host its annual hamburger cookout from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, to benefit United Way Brazos Valley.
The event will be at Sue Haswell Memorial Park, 1142 East William Joel Bryan Parkway.
The annual cookout features special events including an impromptu concert from the Bryan department director who collects the most contributions for United Way and a “guinea ranch game.”
“The United Way cookout is one of the most fun things that we do all year,” said Alsie Bond, Bryan’s community development program administrator. “We promise lots of laughs for a good cause. We hope everyone will come out and join us.”
Deputy city managers Joey Dunn and Hugh Walker will cook hamburgers for the public, while Fire Chief Mike Donoho and the Bryan firefighters will work the burger assembly line. Meal tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door. They can be purchased by calling Bond at 209-5175 or Gus Roman at 209-5476.
City employee cookbooks also will be on sale for $15.
The cookoff serves as a fundraiser for United Way, which addresses many essential health and human service needs in the Brazos Valley. Bryan’s United Way Campaign Committee hopes to raise $25,000 this year.
