Press Release Friday, December 05, 2008B-CS mayors challenge set for Saturday
The City of Bryan is looking to raise more money than College Station for the second consecutive year to support the Salvation Army.
Bryan Mayor Mark Conlee will ring the bell outside the Wal-Mart SuperCenter on Briarcrest Drive from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, while College Station Mayor Ben White will ring the bell during the same hour on Saturday at the College Station Wal-Mart.
Last year, Bryan brought in more than $3,000, while College Station raised roughly $1,600.
Wal-Mart will match every dollar the mayors collectively raise on Saturday, up to $1,000. Wal-Mart also has pledged to provide an additional $1,000 to the Salvation Army on behalf of the winning mayor. All donations will go to our area’s local Salvation Army.
Special guests – including several council members and Brazos Valley Bombers mascot Ka-Boom – will join Mayor Conlee on Saturday, and they plan to streamline the process so donors don’t even have to get out of their cars. Just roll by the front of the store, and they’ll bring a bucket to you! A Bryan fire truck also will be on site.
The winning mayor will be presented a bell trophy by the losing mayor at an upcoming City Council meeting.
Please join us for this good cause!
