Flu Surveillance Efforts
As of today, there are not any confirmed, probable or suspect cases of “North American Flu”, also known as Swine Flu, in Brazos County. The situation continues to be monitored by Brazos County Health
To help with our surveillance efforts, the health department is asking that all doctors’offices, hospitals,
and clinics to do the following:
· Submit flu specimens to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Laboratory for
testing before sending specimens to private labs. Private labs are unable to conduct the
confirmatory test for specific H1 and N1 genes that are required to determine if the flu virus is
· Fill out the Influenza Like Illness (ILI) report form for ANY patients exhibiting influenza like
illness symptoms, especially if a flu culture was submitted for testing to Texas DSHS.

Please fax all forms directly to the Brazos County Health Department at 979-823-2275.
Medical providers and the general public are encouraged to check the health department website daily for updated information.
