Texas Police Games
Officers from the Bryan Police Department participated in the Texas Police Games in Conroe during June 16, 2009 through June 20, 2009. The Texas Police Games are set up by the Texas Police Athletic Federation to give Texas Police Officers the chance to participate in different events. Some examples of the games are: basketball, softball, pistols tactical, bass fishing, horseshoe, power lifting, karate, K9 Patrol, and K9 Narcotics. Some events are related to law enforcement and some are recreational.
The Bryan Police Departmentís K9 Unit participated in the K9 Patrol portion of the Texas Police Games. Officer Chad Hanks won two Silver medals, one in overall top dog and one in patrol functions. Officer James Hauke won a bronze medal in K9 obedience. Both teams medaled and represented the Bryan Police Department exceptionally well.
Two other officers participated in an event on their own, separate from any police department sponsorship. Assistant Chief Curtis Darby and Sgt. Dean Swartzlander participated in the bass fishing tournament as a team. A/C Darby took home four medals; Silver medal in day 2 individual stringer weight, Silver medal in overall individual stringer weight, Silver medal in day 2 team stringer weight and Bronze medal in overall team stringer weight. Sgt. Dean Swartzlander won the Silver medal in day 2 team stringer weight and Bronze medal in overall team stringer weight.
