Man arrested for false report
A 27-year-old man was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 14, for making a false alarm or report.
The man called College Station dispatch around 10:15 a.m. and was transferred to Brazos County 911. He sounded frantic and said that his grandmother had chest pains at her residence. Two different inaccurate addresses were supplied, and the dispatcher worked diligently to help Engine 1, Medic 1 and EMS 1 locate the patient.
Upon arrival at both locations – which kept units occupied for 45 minutes – it was ascertained that the call was a complete fabrication. The incident was turned over to Deputy Fire Marshal Fred Taylor, who investigated and found the man who made the call was Steven Wayne Garrett, who has previously been arrested for arson in Bryan.
Taylor obtained a warrant for the Garrett’s arrest, and with assistance from Officer Caldwell of the Bryan Police Department, transported and booked the man into the Brazos County Jail.
The City of Bryan would like to use this opportunity to remind the public to call 911 only when a true emergency exists.
