Bryan hosts annual cookout for United Way
The City of Bryan will host its annual hamburger cookout from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, to benefit United Way Brazos Valley. The event will be at Sue Haswell Memorial Park, 1142 East William Joel Bryan Parkway.
The annual cookout features special events, games and lots of laughs for a good cause.
Deputy City Manager Hugh Walker will be head chef, leading the cooking team of department managers, while Fire Chief Mike Donoho and the Bryan firefighters will work the burger assembly line. Meal tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door. They can be purchased by calling Alsie Bond at (979) 209-5175 or Gus Roman at (979) 209-5476.
The annual employee “Just Desserts” competition also will be held during the cookout, with dessert goodies being auctioned off after the competition. City employee cookbooks will be on sale for $10.
The cookout serves as a fundraiser for United Way, which addresses many essential health and human service needs in the Brazos Valley. Bryan’s United Way Campaign Committee hopes to raise $22,000 this year. Several United Way-funded agencies will be present at the cookout, hosting an information booth to talk about the services they provide to the community.
