Mounce retirement reception planned for Dec. 4
A public retirement reception for longtime Community Librarian Clara Mounce is set for 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at the Bryan Public Library.
Mounce has served the City of Bryan for more than 30 years. For more than 20 years, she has overseen the three libraries in the Bryan+College Station Library System.
Mounce is known for her strong will and determination. She remains devoted to the library system, encouraging everyone she meets to get a library card. She led the restoration effort of the Carnegie Library in downtown Bryan and works tirelessly to secure grant funding for new library equipment and programs.
“She truly loves her job and the community – and it shows in all that she does,” said Deputy City Manager Joey Dunn.
All three libraries in the Bryan+College Station Library System will close at 3 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4, so employees can attend Mounce’s reception. Regular hours resume on Saturday, Dec. 5.
Larry Koeninger started Nov. 16 as the new community librarian.
“I appreciate how much support I’ve had from the Friends of the Library and the Library Advisory Board,” Mounce said. “I’ve had seven supervisors in my 31 years, and they all have been wonderful. The employees of the library have been exceptional to work with. I look forward to doing volunteer work with them. I’m leaving them in the hands of Larry Koeninger, who has impressed us all.”
