And the winner of Saturday’s mayoral fund-raising challenge was … The Salvation Army.
Bryan Mayor Mark Conlee and College Station Mayor Ben White, stationed at their respective Wal-Marts during the noon hour, combined to raise more than $3,100 for The Salvation Army.
This is the third year the mayors competed in the bell-ringing fundraiser. Mayor Conlee raising $2,390 on Saturday, and Mayor White raised $780. Wal-Mart matches money raised up to $1,000, and adds another $1,000 on behalf of the winning mayor to The Salvation Army.
Both mayors said the friendly competition offers a fun way to get out in the community each year and raise money for a good cause.
