Groundbreaking set for Old Reliance bridge project
Officials are scheduled to break ground Monday, Jan. 18, at 2:30 p.m. on a $4.2 million project that will improve traffic flow and safety in north Bryan.
The Old Reliance Road bridge over Texas 6 will be widened to a four-lane structure with concrete medians and islands, square columns and pedestrian lighting. It is scheduled for completion in fall 2010. The project will improve safety, increase capacity and provide a vital link for the local community.
The project is contracted to W.W. Weber LLC of Houston.
U.S. Congressman Chet Edwards, Bryan Mayor Mark Conlee and several representatives from the Texas Department of Transportation will be on hand at the Monday groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of the new project.
The ceremony will be held on the southeast side of the old bridge. There is no parking available at the ceremony site, but shuttle service will be provided from Rudder High School to the site. This is a construction site and is expected to be muddy, so please dress appropriately.
