BVSWMA, Inc. holds first meeting, approves bylaws
Three Bryan City Council members and three College Station City Council members were sworn into office Wednesday as the Board of Directors of the newly-incorporated Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management Agency Inc.
The directors include Mayor Mark Conlee, Mayor Pro Tem Jason Bienski and Councilman Art Hughes from Bryan, and Mayor Ben White, Councilman James Massey and Councilman John Crompton from College Station. The board will select a seventh member at a future meeting.
The board reviewed and approved the bylaws for the agency. The two city councils will have an opportunity to consider the bylaws at upcoming council meetings.
The board decided to initially hold monthly meetings. The next meeting is scheduled for March 31 at 11:30 a.m. at Bryan City Hall, Room 305. The location for the meetings will alternate between the two City Halls until the new Twin Oaks Facility opens this summer.
Officials said they believe Wednesday’s meeting is a significant next step toward a jointly operated solid waste disposal operation. Earlier this year, the two city councils approved an Interlocal Operation Agreement and Articles of Incorporation for the new agency.
