Bryan Police Awarded "Flagship Agency" from CALEA
The Bryan Police Department is proud to announce it has been re-accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Initial accreditation was achieved November 18, 2006, and compliance with the rigorous CALEA standards is verified every three years by a team of assessors. The Bryan Police Department has met the requirements of the foremost accrediting body for law enforcement agencies.
The announcement of re-accreditation status from CALEA came during a conference held in Dallas, Texas on March 27, 2010. To receive re-accreditation, the Bryan Police Department had to comply with 463 internationally accepted standards for the operation of police organizations. In December of 2009, a team of assessors from CALEA examined all aspects of the Bryan Police Department’s policy and procedures, operations, management, and support services to verify the police department met the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards. The process holds the department accountable and sets the bar for professionalism. This voluntary process to retain re-accreditation status means that the Bryan Police Department is firmly dedicated to providing the best service to the citizens of Bryan.
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., (CALEA), also recognized the Bryan Police Department as one of its “Flagship Agencies” because of its demonstrated commitment to excellence. A Flagship Agency represents an extraordinary example of excellence in public safety and is recognized as a potential resource for future and current CALEA clients. Flagship Agencies provide other law enforcement departments throughout the nation, with guidance and best practices for issues related to obtaining and maintaining accreditation.
The Bryan Police Department is proud to be an internationally accredited police agency, and continually strives to follow the professional standards set forth by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). Accreditation benefits Bryan citizens by promising consistency in policy and procedures that comply with nationwide standards as well as promoting community cooperation and understanding. By conforming to CALEA standards, the Bryan Police Department guarantees that it is a law enforcement agency that is run smoothly, effectively, and efficiently.
