Communications staff wins award for water calendar
The City of Bryan’s popular water calendar was named the best printed publication in the Brazos Valley at an awards ceremony Thursday evening.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requires that municipalities issue an annual water quality report. The City of Bryan’s report has drawn national attention for its creative presentation.
The 2009-2010 calendar was honored Thursday by the local chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators at its annual “Brazos Bravo” ceremony. The calendar, titled “How the Water Was Won,” features a western theme. The “stars” of the calendar are members of the Water Services Department, led by Jayson Barfknecht.
Judges called the calendar outstanding and creative.
“[This] entry absolutely ‘knocks it out of the park’ on the creativity scale,” judges wrote. “No one reads these water reports, and this shows an outstanding ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking in changing that key dynamic.”
The water calendar is composed each year by the City’s Communications and Marketing Department, led by April Saginor. The photography, design and layout are produced by video production specialist Shawn Eyre. Other members of the Communications team include Allen Bruggman, Shawn Smith and Craig Weaver.
