Community Development seeking input on action plans
Bryan’s Community Development Advisory Committee’s regular public meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2010 will include three public hearings. One hearing will be to gain public comment on the City’s 2010-2014 Five-Year Consolidated Plan (5-Year Plan) and 2010 Consolidated Action Plan (CAP).
The Five-Year Plan, which provides direction to the City’s Community Development Services Department in the administration of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME) funds, was developed utilizing extensive data collection through surveys, consultations, public meetings, public hearings, and focus group discussions for low and moderate income persons and special population groups. The Five-Year Plan provides for housing and non housing priorities, goals and objectives.
The second public hearing will be held to begin the 30-day public comment on the CAP, which provides specific annual projects and activities based on the recommendations of the Community Development Advisory Committee and the Joint Relief Funding Review Committee.
The third public hearing will be a presentation and comment period on the Fair Housing and Affirmative Marketing Plan. The public meeting and hearings will be held in the Basement Training Room at Bryan City Hall, 300 South Texas Ave.
The City of Bryan receives approximately $1.4 million per year in federal Community Development funding, which can be used to address various needs, including housing rehabilitation, homebuyer assistance, housing development, public facilities, infrastructure, economic development, elimination of blighted structures and the funding of non-profit Community Housing Development Corporations and non-profit public service agencies.
The Five-Year Consolidated Plan and 2010 CAP will be presented for approval to City Council on July 13 and submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in August. A series of six public meetings, hosted by the Community Development Advisory Committee, also will be held to solicit citizen input.
