Once again, our local police agencies are receiving calls regarding door-to-door solicitors. These solicitors are selling residential burglary alarms and are with a legitimate business which holds permits through both cities to solicit door to door. The solicitors are using a sales tactic of telling the residents that there has been a rash of recent home burglaries in that area. The solicitors are trying to make the residents feel unsafe and purchase a residential home security system by misrepresenting crime statistics and criminal activity. Within the City of College Station, residential burglaries are currently down 20% for the period January - May 2010 when compared to the same period in 2009. Within the City of Bryan, residential burglaries are currently down 18% for the period January - April 2010 when compared the same period in 2009.
The College Station and Bryan Police Departments ask that if you have any questions about your neighborhood to contact them. They can visit with you regarding recent criminal activity and complaints in your neighborhood.
