Citizen Police Academy

Partnerships between the Bryan Police Department and the citizens of Bryan are vital to continue towards the Police Department’s goal to make Bryan the safest city in the Great State of Texas. To continue to build that partnership, the Bryan Police Department offers the citizens of Bryan the chance to see the inner workings of their police department through the Citizen police Academy.

The 10-week CPA course meets one night each week from 6:30 pm until 9:30 pm. Classes are held at the Bryan Police Department. Topics covered in the CPA class include overviews of the Bryan Police Department's organization and structure, information on cadet recruiting and training, introductions to the various divisions of BPD and their responsibilities (such as Criminal Investigations, Traffic, and Narcotics), plus hands-on workshops (such as building searches, simulated traffic stops, and crime scene). Instructors are drawn from the Police Department staff, from officers currently assigned to specific BPD divisions, from non-BPD law enforcement and legal agencies. CPA class members are also given an opportunity to observe police patrol work through a Ride-Along experience for one 12-hour shift with a patrol officer.

The Spanish Citizen Police Academy Class will meet every Monday starting August 2, 2010. For more information, contact Margot Avila at (979) 209-5533.

The English Citizen Police Academy Class will meet every Thursday starting August 5, 2010. For more information, contact Vonda Pope at (979) 209-5310.

An application may also be obtained from the Bryan Police Department website at www.bryantxpolice.com and is under the volunteer tab.

Upon graduating from the CPA, citizens will have the chance to join the Bryan Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association. CPAAA members can continue to work with the police department as volunteers in areas and functions throughout the department.
