City of Bryan Burglar Alarms Must Be Registered
As a reminder, if you have a burglary alarm that is active in the City of Bryan, it must be registered with the Bryan Police Department. The Bryan Police Department responds to thousands of burglary alarms per year at residences and commercial properties within the city. It has been shown that 98% of those alarms that officers respond to are false alarms. Investigating these false alarms takes time and ties up officers, preventing them from helping other citizens in need.
The purpose of registering the burglary alarm is to inform police that there is a valid alarm at the address they are responding to and who is authorized to be on premise. It also helps the police department to locate an owner of the property in the event of a break in or their designee, the ability to contact the alarm company that is monitoring the alarm, and have the ability to inform the owner of possible alarm malfunctions. Failure to register your alarm can result in violations of this city ordinance and a citation being issued to the registered owner.
Registering your burglary alarm will allow you up to 5 false alarms per calendar year. If false alarms persist during that year, the owner will be fined $50.00 per each false alarm. False robbery alarms are assessed a fine of $100.00 per false alarm per calendar year. The Bryan Police Department partnered with PMAM to monitor and register alarm permits in the City of Bryan. The goal of this partnership is reduce the numbers of false alarms in the city. This will increase response times and availability of officers responded to other citizens in need.
Citizens can register their alarm at the Bryan Police Department or on line at www.bryantxpolice.com and click on Alarm Permits on the right side of the page. There is a link to register your alarm on line from the convenience of your home or business. This site also allows you to monitor the history of your alarm activity. From this site you can also read the alarm permit city ordinance, re-register a permit that is expired, cancel a permit, and watch instructional videos on how to register an alarm on the web. The fees for permits are also posted online. The registration fee for residential and commercial alarms is $75.00 for a three year permit.
