Press Release Thursday, September 16, 2010Bryan Fire Department starts pet-friendly program
The Bryan Fire Department is now better equipped than ever to help pets who have been trapped in structure fires. The BFD has several animal oxygen mask kits on their units that respond to fire calls in case pets in the home or building have suffered smoke inhalation. The masks were donated to the BFD by the Brazos Feral Cat Allies. The pet masks have already been used numerous times to help animals who were suffering from smoke inhalation. A new decal program was also launched by those two organizations.
The decal (please see attached) is meant to be affixed on or near the front door of a building where pets live. In the event of a fire, Bryan firefighters will look for the decal when they enter a burning building in search of people, and then animals. The decals can be picked up for free at any of the five Bryan fire stations.
