News Link: Recent News | News | Press ReleasesPress Release Friday, February 5, 2010 Grant funds to be discussed Thursday The City of Bryan’s Community Development Advisory Committee is hosting a public hearing at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, to seek input on the re-allocation of HOME administrative funds to the Community Housing Development operating activity fund and the Homebuyers’ Assistance Program.
The meeting will be at the Bryan Municipal Office Building, 300 South Texas Ave., in the basement training room. The advisory committee also will hold its regular public meeting at this time to discuss housing programs, neighborhood stabilization program, economic development, public services and public facilities.
About $5,000 is being reallocated to the Community Housing Development Operating Activity Fund, and about $24,000 is being reallocated to the Homebuyers’ Assistance Program. The funds are eligible to cities with populations over 50,000, and assist the cities in funding programs that benefit primarily low- to moderate-income citizens.
The City of Bryan provides several housing programs designed to preserve and increase the housing stock by offering eligible citizens homeowner-occupied rehabilitation and reconstruction and home buyers’ assistance. The City also works with developers and funds infrastructure projects in low- and moderate-income areas and eligible non-profits that provide health and human services to clients.
Public service funding is done through a joint process with the City of College Station on an annual basis and is the second-largest source of funds for eligible agencies in the area. City staff from the Community Development Services Department will be available at the meeting to answer questions.
