Alternate Lane Closures on S. College between Sulphur Springs, Villa Maria Begin July 10th

On Monday, July 10, 2017, construction crews will begin the reconstruction of South College Avenue between Villa Maria Road and Sulphur Springs Road. This Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) project includes the replacement of traffic signals; the installation of new water, sanitary sewer, and storm water lines; new underground telecommunication conduit; and reconstruction of the roadway.

  • WHAT: Alternate Lane Closures
  • WHERE: South College Avenue, Sulphur Springs Road to Villa Maria Road
  • WHEN: Beginning Monday, July 10th – 7 AM to 5 PM Daily, Excluding Weekends, Weather Permitting

Awarded by Bryan City Council on May 11, 2017, this $2.8 million infrastructure improvement project will be completed by Larry Young Paving with crews beginning at the intersection of South College Avenue and Villa Maria Road progressing toward Sulphur Springs Road. Please note that South College Avenue, and all side streets between Villa Maria Road and Sulphur Springs Road, will be impacted for the duration of the project. Work will be performed daily from 7 AM until 5 PM, excluding weekends, and is anticipated to continue over the next 9 to 12 months.

Please expect the number of travel lanes on South College Avenue between Sulphur Springs Road and Villa Maria Road to be reduced to two lanes. In addition, there will be single lane closures and a 25 MPH speed limit within the work zone. Drivers are encouraged to follow the posted detour signage, utilize alternate routes, and allow extra travel time during the construction period. In addition, drivers are asked to please use caution and pay special attention when traveling through the construction area.

Upon completion of the reconstruction project, a separate contract administered by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will be initiated for the installation of sidewalks and multi-use paths along South College Avenue from Inlow Boulevard to Villa Maria Road. It is anticipated this secondary project will begin in the later part of 2017.
