On March 21, 2017, the City of Bryan hosted a public meeting welcoming all citizens to attend and voice their opinions and thoughts about by-the-room rental housing in established neighborhoods. This event was popular with standing room only and more than 100 attendees. Because of the popularity of the event, another meeting date has been scheduled with a more accommodating meeting location.
The meeting will begin with citizens opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback through interactive boards. At around 6 p.m. the public forum style portion of the meeting will begin. This portion of the meeting will include the opportunity for citizens to voice their thoughts and opinions directly to the subcommittee appointed to study the topic.
The topic of the meeting is specific to by-the-room rental housing, or stealth dorms. Stealth dorms are rental unit structures built in compliance with the residential building code that regulates construction of single-family homes, but have multiple-family housing characteristics such as; no garage, have a bathroom for every bedroom, and are rented by-the-room to unrelated individuals.
