On August 23, 2016, Bryan City Council approved the construction contract for LDF Construction, Inc. to build the new Fire Station No. 2 replacing an existing facility originally built in 1967. Ground was broken on October 18, 2016 to celebrate the new station which will provide a modern, fully equipped facility for firefighters including features such as adequate storage for lifesaving equipment, a professional training room, and an exercise room. This project also includes significant infrastructure improvements to the roadway, water, sanitary sewer, and storm water drainage systems in the immediate area of the fire station. The project is anticipated to cost $6.347 million once complete and is funded through the use of the 2016 Bond and Transportation Fund.
Drivers are encouraged to utilize alternate routes and allow extra travel time. In addition, drivers are asked to please use caution when traveling through the construction area and to pay special attention to detour signage.
