The City receives approximately $1.2 million in federal funds annually, including Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME) dollars, based on the City’s capacity to meet federal requirements. These funds are designed to provide technical assistance and/or funding for eligible activities regarding housing, public facilities, and access to public service agency programs for specific populations. Targeted populations include low to moderate income persons and special needs populations as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) such as the elderly, the homeless, abused children, and victims of domestic violence.
The City’s Community Development Department utilizes these federal funds for their Minor Repair program, Major Rehabilitation/Reconstruction program, Housing Development program, Home Buyer’s program and Clearance/Demolition. Participation in the programs is voluntary and determined by a qualification process. Nonprofits seeking to improve access to their services may apply through an annual competitive request for proposal process. Nonprofits could also be eligible for improvements to facilities through a separate annual application process.
