Cal the Wonder Tortoise is a local celebrity and will be “signing autographs” for his adoring fans at the Clara B. Mounce Public Library this Saturday, November 10, from 1 to 3 PM. Cared for by the Reptile Hospice and Sanctuary of Texas, Cal is one of many reptiles that helps teach the community about the husbandry and care of reptiles.

Fun facts about Cal the Wonder Tortoise:
- He is an African Sulcata tortoise, the 3rd largest species of tortoise in the world.
- He weighs 200+ pounds and is more than 4 feet long and 3 feet wide.
- He hatched from a tiny egg in 1999 and will likely live up to 125 years of age.
- He calls the Reptile Hospice and Sanctuary of Texas home.
The Reptile Hospice and Sanctuary of Texas has served as a refuge for unwanted, abandoned, confiscated, and injured reptiles for more than 20 years in the Brazos Valley. The sanctuary has saved the lives of 400+ reptiles with more than 200 reptiles living at the sanctuary today, all supported through donations.
