Now Accepting Applications for BPD Citizen Police Academy

BPD Citizen Police Academy

It’s that time of year again when we recruit citizens for class.  Do you know someone who would like to join our Citizens Police Academy or have you been thinking about it yourself?   Well now is the time to join.  Every year we offer citizens a chance to partner with the Bryan Police Department and learn about what we do and see firsthand how it is done.  The Bryan Police Department offers the citizens of Bryan the chance to see the inner workings of their police department through the Citizen’s Police Academy and it’s FREE.

The 10-week CPA course meets one night each week from 6:30 pm until 9:30 pm. Classes are held at the Bryan Police Department.  Topics covered in the CPA class include overviews of the Bryan Police Department’s organization and structure, information on cadet recruiting and training, introductions to the various divisions of the BPD and their responsibilities (such as Criminal Investigations, Traffic Safety, and Narcotics).  Plus, there will be hands-on workshops such as building searches, simulated traffic stops, and crime scenes.  Instructors are drawn from the Police Department staff and other criminal justice agencies.  CPA class members are also given an opportunity to do a Ride-Along experience with a patrol officer on the streets.

The 52nd Citizens Police Academy Class will meet every Thursday starting February 1, 2018.  Deadline for applications is January 19, 2018.

For more information, contact Mildred Pottinger at (979) 209-5381 or Officer Kelley McKethan at (979) 209-5350.

An application may also be obtained from the Bryan Police Department website at .  Or come into the Police Department lobby and ask for an application.  It takes only a couple of minutes to fill out.  Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
