If you are following the news regarding the “Do Not Use” order for Lake Jackson residents related to the discovery of the Naegleria fowleri in that city’s drinking water system, it’s understandable to have questions about the safety of our local drinking water. Below are some facts about this specific amoeba, as well as what the cities of Bryan and College Station are doing to ensure the safety of your water supply.
Woodville Road will be closed between Woody Lane and Old Hearne Road from Friday, Sept. 11, 2020 until further notice as part of the Woodville Road Sewer Line Improvements Project. This project is part of the approved FY2018-FY2022 Capital Improvement Program.
This project includes construction of new water, sanitary, drainage, road and sidewalks along Woodville Road from the State Highway 6 Overpass to Old Hearne Road. These improvements will replace aging infrastructure and create a safer environment for vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians. This project will be completed in several phases with traffic control being revised and posted for each phase.
The current phase of the project closes Woodville Road between Woody Lane and Old Hearne Road. No through traffic will be allowed.
Eastbound through traffic on Woodville Road will be detoured onto Old Hearne Road, onto Stevens Drive and then onto Woody Lane. Westbound through traffic will be detoured onto Woody Lane, onto Stevens Drive and then onto Old Hearne Road. Local access to homes will remain open. Please drive slowly through the area and obey all traffic signs and flagmen.
