Beginning Tuesday, January 9, 2018, contractors will close Sims Avenue between West William J. Bryan Parkway and West 27th Street to complete the construction of a new waterline as part of the West 26th Street reconstruction project in Bryan. Work will be performed daily between 7 AM and 7 PM, excluding the weekends, and it is anticipated this closure will continue over the next several days, weather permitting.

This Capital Improvement Program (CIP) project includes rebuilding nine blocks of West 26th Street from Parker Avenue to Brazos Avenue as well as two blocks along eight cross-streets: Sims, Sterling, Logan, Randolph, Congress, Baylor, Reed, and Alamo from William Joel Bryan Parkway to 27th Street. As a part of this project, the roadway surface will be replaced with concrete pavement and both water and sanitary sewer lines will be replaced. Sidewalks will be installed continuously on the north side of West 26th Street and along portions of the south side. Additional infrastructure improvements will be made including the installation of conduit for future planning purposes as well as improved lighting.
Through the bid process, Larry Young Paving was awarded the contract by City Council in May 2016. This $5.59 million dollar CIP project is slated for completion by June 2018 and is funded by 2014 Certificates of Obligation (CO), Transportation Fee, Water Maintenance, and Sewer Maintenance Funds.
Drivers are encouraged to follow the detour signage and utilize alternate routes during the construction period. In addition, drivers are asked to please use caution and pay special attention when traveling through the work zone.
