Smoke testing to begin the week of Feb. 8 in central, southeast Bryan

Residents in central and southeast areas of Bryan may see smoke emanating from various areas beginning the week of Feb. 8, as contractors with the City of Bryan perform smoke testing on sanitary sewer lines.

The smoke testing helps identify broken pipes and other defects by having field crews inject smoke into the sewer lines through manholes. During this process, crews will enter properties to document the defects, but they will not enter private residences. You do not need to be home during the testing.

Residents may see smoke exit from vent pipes on the roofs of homes and commercial businesses, manholes and the ground where broken sewer pipes may exist. The smoke is non-toxic, does not leave a residue and does not create a fire hazard. The smoke will not enter a house unless there is defective plumbing present or drain traps are dry. Residents and business owners can help prevent smoke from entering their buildings by pouring about one gallon of water into seldom-used drains.

Testing will continue intermittently through the end of February in the following areas: Apple Creek Circle, Arbor Drive, Barwick Circle, Braeburn Street, Briar Grove Circle, Briarcreek Court, Briarcrest Drive, Briarwood Circle, Broadmoor Drive, Burning Tree Court, Cambridge Drive, Camelot Drive, Campus Drive, Chapparral Circle, Cherry Creek Circle, Country Club Drive, De Lee Street, Debbie Drive, East 29th Street, East Briargate Drive, East Villa Maria Road, East William Joel Bryan Parkway, Ella Lane, Evan Drive, Freedom Boulevard, Gleneagles Court, Hollow Oak Circle, Janice Tr., Leila Court, Lochinvar Lane, Long Drive, Louisa Court, Meadow Briar Circle, Memorial Drive, North Earl Rudder Freeway, Nash Street, Nicole Court, Oak Circle, Oak Ridge Drive, Par Drive, Partridge Circle, Peterson Circle, Peterson Way, Pinehurst Circle, Priscilla Court, Quail Hollow Drive, Reagan Court, Red River Drive, River Forest Drive, Rustling Oaks Drive, San Antonio Street, Shannon Circle, Towering Oaks Drive, Towne Centre Way, Trophy Drive, Twisted Oaks Drive, Valley View Drive, Village Drive, West Briargate Drive, Whispering Oaks Circle, and Wildflower Drive.

Residents with questions about this process should contact the City’s Water Services Department at 979.209.5900.
